Advanced Buoyancy Control

pool-briefingExcellent buoyancy control is what defines skilled scuba divers. You’ve seen them underwater. They glide effortlessly, use less air and ascend, descend or hover almost as if by thought. They more easily observe aquatic life without disturbing their surroundings. You can achieve this, too. The Advanced Buoyancy Control Specialty course improves the buoyancy skills you learned as a new diver and elevates them to the next level.

What You LearnWhat's InvolvedUpcoming ClassesGearCourse Fees

Our Advanced Buoyancy Control course consists of the following training elements:

  • Independent Study: Online eLearning program.
  • Classroom Sessions: Discussion style interaction with an instructor.
  • Open Water Dives: Put it all together and experience your next level of diving.

During your independent study (eLearning) you will learn about:

  • The benefits of perfecting buoyancy control.
  • How to determine correct weighting and when weight checks should be performed.
  • Controlled ascents and descents.

During your classroom sessions we will discuss:

  • Body positioning and streamlining diving gear.
If you own your dive gear we encourage you to bring it to the classroom session so we can make recommendations.
  • Diver Awareness: You and your gear, divers around you, and the environment.
  • Breathing control and hovering techniques for safety stops, photographing, and videoing.
  • Buoyancy control techniques during night or limited visibility diving.

During your open water dives you will:

  • Practice and implement what you learned during your classroom sessions.
  • Hang out, have fun and see what it is like to be on a dive vacation . . . Even in Kankakee.
  • Go diving! Explore the quarry or ocean.

If you have not done so, I encourage you to take a few minutes and read the Frequently Asked Questions and Our Training Philosophy pages. Below is detailed information on the process of getting started and completing your training.
