The Lure of the Deep

There’s something exciting and mysterious about exploring deeper dive sites while scuba diving. Sometimes it’s a wreck that attracts you below 18 metres/60 feet, and on wall dives it may be a giant fan or sponge. Whatever it is, to scuba dive with confidence at depths down to 40 metres/130 feet, you should take the Deep Diver Specialty course.

What You LearnWhat's InvolvedUpcoming ClassesGearCourse Fees

Our Deep Diver course consists of the following training elements:

  • Independent Study: Online eLearning program.
  • Classroom Sessions: Discussion style interaction with an instructor.
  • Open Water Dives: Put it all together and experience your next level of diving.

During your independent study (eLearning) you will learn about:

  • History of dive tables and computers
  • Equipment needed for deep diving
  • Physics and physiology of deep diving
  • Emergency procedures for deep diving

During your classroom sessions we will discuss:

  • Testing and checking all equipment, i.e. depth gauges, bottom timers/watches and computers
  • Familiarization with the dive site
  • Descending to a planned depth and not exceeding any pre-planned limits
  • Monitoring depth/time/air consumption, figure all times on slate

During your open water dives you will:

  • Practice and implement what you learned during your classroom sessions.
  • Hang out, have fun and see what it is like to be on a dive vacation . . . Even in Kankakee.
  • Go diving! Explore the quarry or ocean.

If you have not done so, I encourage you to take a few minutes and read the Frequently Asked Questions and Our Training Philosophy pages. Below is detailed information on the process of getting started and completing your training.
