Solo Diver

SDI Solo DiverSometimes you want to go on a dive, sit in a sand patch and stare at one coral head for an hour while playing with your new camera. Maybe you’re on a dive trip, your buddy wants to sit out a dive, you’ve upset everybody else but you want to dive. Maybe, you want to become a better dive and dive buddy. During your classroom and in water training, you will learn about the concepts, equipment and skills needed to safely dive alone. Some of these concepts and skills include

  • Why solo dive?
  • Pros and cons of buddy diving and solo diving
  • Legal liability assumed by buddy diving
  • The solo diving mentality
  • When not to solo dive
  • Equipment for solo diving
  • Planning and conducting a solo dive
  • Navigation
  • Management of solo diving emergencies
  • Streamlining and equipment configuration

Step 1: Contact Us with any questions or for class availability.

Step 2: Be sure you meet the prerequisite requirements.

  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Be certified as an SDI Advanced Diver or equivalent.
  • Provide proof of at least 100 logged at dives.

Step 3: Download and complete the required paperwork for the course.

Step 4: Stop by the shop

  • Bring your completed paperwork, and review it with one of our instructors.
  • Pick up your course materials and pay for your course.
  • Go over any other details or questions you may have, and confirm schedule.
  • Purchase gear you need for class.

Step 5: Classroom and Open Water Training Dives

Gear you are responsible for providing:

  • Mask, Snorkel, Boots and Fins
  • BCD, Regulator w/ SPG and Dive Computer
  • Appropriate Exposure Protection (Dry Suit, Wetsuit, Hood, Gloves, etc.)
  • Signal Tube / Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) / Safety Sausage
  • Finger Spool or Real
  • 2 Cutting Devices
  • Slate with Pencil
  • Log book
