Cabo Pulmo ranks as one of my top 5 places to dive. I would even argue it is the Haigh Quarry of the Sea of Cortez . . . with some minor differences. Instead of cold, green, murky water, you are immersed in the clear, blue, warm wetness of the Pacific. Instead of angry bluegills swarming around you, you are blanketed by the gentle, synchronized dance of big eye jacks as far as you can see. Instead of catfish lurking in the dark shadows, bull sharks elegantly entertain you. My advice, figure out how to make your head rotate 360 degrees. When you are in the waters of Cabo Pulmo anything can happen. Don’t forget to keep an eye out in the blue. Giant whales, schooling mobula rays, whale sharks, dolphins, and so much more have all been seen “diving” the Cabo Pulmo sea. Best of all, we will be diving at peak action season.

If you have high standards, and that is not enough to get you going, sit back and let the fast and fun sea lions dazzle you, get hypnotized by the plethora of life thriving in the water, or get lost in a school of shimmery machetes before a pair of eagle rays come gliding through. When your dive computer cannot take anymore, look down . . . well hello odd looking blennies and nudibranchs. See you next dive. Those are a few our past trip highlights. This year we are going for five and a half days of diving. Get the oxygen ready. If I were a doctor, I would prescribe this next one to all my patients.

Besides the diving, Cabo Pulmo is a unique town. Known by but a few divers, it is an off the beaten path, eco friendly gem, hidden between the desert mountains of Baja Sur and the Sea of Cortez. No street signs, no street lights, no paved roads. It’s like going back in time, and it’s wonderful. There is a calm aura about Pulmo. You have no choice but to relax. The landscape surrounding you is surreal. A mix of green, sand and ocean blue. The people are friendly, the food delicious, the skies are clear and star filled.
